Understanding Disability

Disability is a term covering impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions. Impairment is a problem in body function/structure; an activity limitation is a difficulty encountered by an individual in executing activity. Disability is a complex phenomenon reflecting an interaction between features of a person's body and features of a society in which he or she lives.

Virchow Foundation's Commitment

Virchow Foundation has taken up the project to support the rights of persons with disability for the differently abled persons to provide them a way to live with dignity and work for a sustainable livelihood. Foundation also feels to support physical, social and emotional empowerment.

Support Provided by Foundation

Foundation supports physically challenged people by providing different aids like:

  • Artificial Limbs - Custom-fitted prosthetics for amputees
  • Tri-cycles - Mobility assistance for lower limb disabilities
  • Callipers - Support devices for walking assistance
  • Braille Sticks - Navigation aids for visually impaired
  • Braille Books - Educational materials for blind individuals
  • Hearing Aids - Audio assistance devices for hearing impaired
